How Recent Google Changes Have Affected Search Engine Optimization

Unless you closely follow the world of Search Engine Optimization, you may not be aware of the recent changes Google has made. But before we explain what they are and how they affect things, it’s important that you first understand this: Google is basically the SEO dictator. Meaning whether you’re a small Search Engine Optimization  firm, or a company that operates worldwide, the way you go about SEO must be centered on what Google wants.

Why? Because they’re by far the biggest, most used search engine in the world. So when Google makes a change—people take notice.

That said, recently they made the biggest update they’ve made in years, coined “Panda.” In short, the update penalized content farms and article syndication sites. Basically sites that mass produce content that is deemed subpar typically for search engine optimization purposes.

What does that mean for search engine optimization companies? Well, the biggest thing is that the article marketing they’ve relied so heavily on in the past suddenly is devalued. Gaining inbound links through these articles will no longer have the effect it once had.

So now what? Where are things headed? The answer largely lies in two words: “Compelling Content”. Rather than gaining links from mass produced articles, now search engine optimization  companies are seeking out links from unique, quality content featured on your website or blog entries.   If you have good solid content you have a much better chance of natural viral link building to happen via social media shares.
