Simple Tips for Writing SEO Copy

The backbone of any SEO strategy is good, optimized website copy. If the content on your website isn’t targeting the right keywords, you stand almost no chance of getting the top rankings you desire.

Here are some simple tips for writing great SEO copy.

  • Include the keyword in the headline—Make sure you put the main keyword in the H1 headline on the page. Ideally, the keyword should be the first word in the page’s headline.
  • Use the keywords a few times throughout the body—Pepper the keywords in throughout the body of the page, a little at the beginning, once or twice in the middle, and again at the end.
  • Don’t overdo it—When writing for SEO purposes, it’s tempting to stuff keywords wherever you can fit them, but if you overdo it, you’ll end up with spammy, unnatural copy that doesn’t convert or even gets penalized by Google.  A good rule of thumb is use your keyword 1% of the time in comparison to the rest of the words on the page.
